Privacy Policy

Who we are
FamilyHotels.app (“we”, “us”) operates a family hotel directory at familyhotels.app. We help parents discover and compare family-friendly hotels. Some links on the site are affiliate links to booking partners.
For privacy questions or to exercise your rights, contact us at [email protected].
What this policy covers
This policy explains how we handle personal data when you browse our public website. It does not cover third-party booking sites (such as Expedia) that you may visit after leaving our site.
Data we process
When you browse the site
- Server and security logs — our hosting infrastructure may record your IP address, browser type, requested pages, and timestamps to keep the service secure and reliable.
- Session cookie — Laravel uses a strictly necessary session cookie so the site can function (for example, flash messages). This cookie does not track you across other websites.
- Analytics (optional) — if you accept analytics cookies, we load Google Tag Manager, which may set cookies and collect usage data (pages viewed, clicks, device/browser information) to help us improve the site. We configure GTM with consent mode expectations; tags should fire only after you accept.
When you click a booking link
If you use a “Check availability” or similar partner link, we redirect you through our outbound URL first so we can record that a click occurred. We store:
- the hotel and optional collection you clicked from,
- the destination URL,
- the referring page,
- a hashed version of your IP address (not the raw IP),
- browser user-agent string,
- an anonymous session identifier.
We use this information to measure affiliate performance and improve our listings. Our lawful basis is legitimate interest in operating an affiliate directory and understanding which content drives bookings, balanced against your privacy rights.
Google Maps photos
Hotel photos may be loaded from Google via our image proxy when a hotel has a Google Place ID. Google may process technical data when those images are requested. See Google’s Privacy Policy.

Legal bases (GDPR)
- Consent — analytics cookies and related tracking via Google Tag Manager.
- Legitimate interest — security logging, affiliate click measurement, and operating the directory.
- Contract / pre-contractual steps — not typically applicable; we do not sell travel services directly.
How long we keep data
- Affiliate click records are kept for internal reporting; we review retention periodically and delete or aggregate old data when no longer needed.
- Server logs are retained according to our hosting provider’s defaults, typically for a limited period.
- Analytics data is processed by Google according to your GTM/GA4 configuration and Google’s retention settings.
Your rights
If you are in the UK or EEA, you may have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you,
- request correction or deletion,
- object to or restrict certain processing,
- withdraw consent for analytics cookies at any time (without affecting the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal),
- lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
To make a request, email [email protected]. We may need to verify your identity before responding.
International transfers
Our infrastructure and third-party providers (including Google) may process data outside your country. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses offered by those providers.
Children
Our site is intended for adults planning family travel. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can delete it.
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the site after changes means you accept the revised policy where permitted by law.
